Actions to welcome immigrant families and support immigrant parenting cannot be limited to introducing the figure of cultural mediator. Instead, they must embrace the whole scope of the relationship by taking tools from cultural anthropology too. The article analyses educators’ difficulties in understanding the families’ needs and reflects on the problems faced by immigrant parents in raising their children in a different context to where they were born and grew up. Some training experiences in Tuscany have highlighted some useful strategies for fostering relationships between nursery school educators and immigrant parents.
