Fossil remains of Deinogalerix from Scontrone (Abruzzo) and of "Apodemus" from Gargano (Apulia), but also other Gargano specimens recovered during 2005 – 2009 excavations, such as those of Deinogalerix, offer new insights into the late Miocene faunal communities of the socalled Abruzzo-Apulian palaeobioprovince.
