This paper deals with the mutual relation between philosophy and theology, focusing on the case of the German lutheran pastor Johann Joachim Spalding. Spalding was well-versed in philosophy, read both ancient and modern authors, and exploited their ideas for religious aims. His work therefore represents a unique chance to stress the relevance of interdisciplinary research.
