Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) was introduced at the beginning of this century, as a technological revolution for comfortable, safe and easy explorations of the gastrointestinal (GI) tube with a swallowable capsule-sized miniaturised camera. Here we review the grand challenges of this emerging technology.
