Ciclo economico e crisi fra Kuznets, Piketty e la geografia

Questo articolo sostiene che il lavoro di Thomas Piketty è politicamente molto importante, ed è bene che esista; ma che, nonostante le apparenze, ha un rapporto difficile con le altre scienze sociali, e in particolare con la Geografia. Ciò deriva dalla sostanziale analogia metodologica con i lavori pionieristici di Kuznets su reddito e patrimoni, e in particolare dal fatto che i concetti di ciclo economico e di crisi non sono presi in considerazione da entrambi gli autori. Se Piketty avesse adottato un diverso punto di vista, incorporando queste nozioni, le relazioni e la comunicazione con le altre discipline sarebbero state più fruttuose. This paper argues that the work of Thomas Piketty is politically very important (and it is good that it exists), but that is rather disappointing in relation to other social sciences and geography, because of a methodological approach similar to that of the old pioneering studies of Simon Kuznets. The main problem is that the concept of crisis is excluded from the analysis by both authors. If Piketty had adopted a different point of view, incorporating this notion, it is likely that this relationship and the communication with the others disciplines would be much more fruitful.
