RDA : Resource and Access

RDA, Resource Description and Access, is a set of guidelines and instructions for recording data of any resource. The term resource entered the vocabulary from the beginning of 2000, used with the meaning of any object carrying a message: manuscripts, books, periodicals, photos, music, geographic maps, films, ebooks, institutional documents, personal and family cards, business documents, correspondence, artwork, scenes, artifacts and natural objects, models. RDA places the user at the center; in fact, its main purpose is to allow each user to discover and obtain resources of their own interest. RDA fully expresses its potential if combined with flexible technology, capable of "releasing" individual descriptive elements by making them autonomous. The data is rendered more granular, enabling the ability to carry out more targeted searches than is possible with current catalogs. For this reason RDA is a standard conceived primarily for the digital age, which moves within the semantic web philosophy created by the linked data technologies. RDA is adopted by the Library of Congress and other libraries of the Anglo-American and European areas from March 31, 2013. RDA, Resource Description and Access, si presenta come un insieme di linee guida e di istruzioni per la registrazione dei dati di qualsiasi risorsa, termine entrato nel vocabolario biblioteconomico dall'inizio del 2000, utilizzato col significato di qualsiasi tipo di oggetto portatore di un messaggio: manoscritti, libri, periodici, foto, musica, carte geografiche, film, ebook, documenti istituzionali, carte personali e familiari, documentazione aziendale, corrispondenza, opere d'arte, abiti di scena, reperti e oggetti naturali, aeromobili e macchine spaziali, modellini. RDA pone al centro l'utente; infatti suo scopo principale è consentire a ciascun utente di scoprire e ottenere le risorse di proprio interesse. RDA esprime pienamente le sue potenzialità se unito a tecnologie con una struttura flessibile, in grado di "liberare" i singoli elementi descrittivi rendendoli autonomi; i dati vengono resi più granulari, consentendo la possibilità di compiere ricerche ben più mirate rispetto a quanto sia possibile coi cataloghi attuali. Per questo RDA è uno standard concepito primariamente per l'era digitale, che si muove all'interno della filosofia del web semantico realizzata dalle tecnologie dei linked data. Dal 31 marzo 2013, RDA è adottato dalla Library of Congress e da altre biblioteche di ambito angloamericano ed europeo.
