Abstract The study is aimed at preparing a structured tool for urban areas management. The proposed framework consists of a multilayer database, made of georeferenced data, using the GIS platform, which is very versatile, and easy to be upgraded and updated. The framework is made of both general and thematic layers. At the current tine, anyway, the only thematic subject which has been developed is the seismic one, aimed at evaluating the seismic risk of the examined area. The data introduced in the database, to achieve the seismic risk of the buildings can be “basic” and “complex”. The basic data consist both of existing information, taken by different databased and introduced in the adopted format, and of information appositely found in this research. The complex information, instead, are generated by the framework on the base of the basic data and the introduced relationships and they are aimed at illustrating the seismic vulnerability, exposure and hazard of the building population. An empiric approach has been adopted to elaborate the input database. The proposed framework has been applied to a real case-study, i.e. the town of Arezzo. In the paper the main information collected and elaborated for the assumed case-study, regarding both the general features and the seismic analysis of the area, has been shown.
