The electromechanical performances of dielectric elastomer planar actuators largely depend on the compliant electrode material and the applied prestress. In relation to different applicable voltage ranges, it is necessary to choose an opportune electrode material and an opportune prestress to reach the maximum isotonic strain, the maximum isometric stress or the maximum electromechanical coupling efficiency.
