Luigi Venturi (Pavia, 1812 – Florence, 1890) was the close secretary of Tuscany’s grand duke Leopold II and a versatile writer. He was an influent man up to the revolution in April 1856, that brought about grand duke’s escape. He had terms of familiarity with a lot of learned men and artists that in those years were active in Florence, as we can see from the letters he wrote and received, that are still preserved, scattered and unpublished. From 1859, he was forced to private life because of the political employment he had previously undertaken, and he devoted himself to poetry and study, above all of Bible, Fathers, Dante and Manzoni. In all his production, we mention especially the study Le similitudini dantesche. Uomo influente fino alla rivoluzione dell’aprile 1859, che portò alla fuga il granduca, ebbe rapporti di familiarità con molti intellettuali e artisti attivi in quegli anni a Firenze, come rivelano le lettere da lui scritte o a lui inviate che ancora si conservano sparse e inedite. Dal 1859, costretto a vita privata a causa dell’impiego politico in precedenza assunto, si dedicò assiduamente alla poesia e agli studi, principalmente della Bibbia, dei Padri, di Dante e di Manzoni. Nella sua varia produzione si segnala in particolare lo studio Le similitudini dantesche.
