The article is the first attempt in the history of Aegean metrology to study the historical trajectory of the development of the Aegean weighing systems. It collects data from previous publications and from first-hand studies, to build up a pattern of evolution from Middle Bronze Age to Early Iron Age. After the creation of an autonomous weighing system in crete during the MBA, some changes take place during the Mycenaean period (LBA advanced) to meet local traditions and Near Eastern influences. During the Early Iron Age, the Aegean standards seem to give place to Near Eastern ones. This work is now internationally considered a fundamental step in this branch of studies.
