Appunti su alcune ceramiche ellenistiche da piazzetta dei Fornelli

During the archaic period, in the area of piazzetta dei Fornelli, hydraulic structures were built, and large buildings placed on the sides of a road axis: a channel water dates back to this period, probably functional to the cistern to which it seems to go. As a consequence of the Hellenistic restructuring, during the 2nd century BC the northern sector of the channel water fell into disuse and was obliterated with earth and a large amount of pottery. Some ceramics from this filling are analyzed here. These are various fragments of black glazed pottery and some fragments of vases with decoration in superposed colour: these findings, coming from an area of the city, integrate knowledge on the production of the Volterra ceramic workshops and on the circulation of particular artefacts during the Hellenistic period.
