The note aims at characterizing the hydraulic behaviour of the removing wastes system from alleys through the flushing method in dairy free stall barns. The flush system guarantees the moving, the conveyance and the removal of wastes from the high roughness floor, through the manure flux. The application of an experimental approach, aiming at characterizing, from an hydraulic point of view, the manure flux, allowed the description of the functioning scheme of the alleys in two free stall barns, localized in the Reggio Emilia and Parma district, which have been using this cleaning system since some years. Furthermore, in the same barns, concentrations in the air of CO2, NH3 and H2S have been measured and a comparison has been made with values taken in other seven barns operating with other cleaning systems, finding values within the standard limits. As regards the dirt level of the animals, the results obtained from the comparison between the values calculated in barns operating with the flushing and those with different cleaning systems, are comparable.
