It is used at times in the Greek theatre, both in tragedy and in comedy. A search for it in Menander’s five comedies that are best known to us (thank to papyri) leads to the conclusion that aposiopesis is especially used in the Samia, in order to characterize some reticent personae: in particular it is used by the very protagonist, Demeas, but by other male characters too, in turn.
