The stress transfer mechanism between the concrete and the FRP plate through the epoxy-resin plays a fundamental role in the collapse mechanisms of beams reinforced with FRP plates. The utilized bonding technology and the mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the three constituting elements yields three different collapse mechanisms: a) plate peeling, b) concrete shear cracking at plate ends, c) concrete tensile cracking at midspan. To identify the conditions in which the above mentioned collapse mechanisms are activated either an experimental and analytical study has been performed.

Abstract

The stress transfer mechanism between the concrete and the FRP plate through the epoxy-resin plays a fundamental role in the collapse mechanisms of beams reinforced with FRP plates. The utilized bonding technology and the mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the three constituting elements yields three different collapse mechanisms: a) plate peeling, b) concrete shear cracking at plate ends, c) concrete tensile cracking at midspan. To identify the conditions in which the above mentioned collapse mechanisms are activated either an experimental and analytical study has been performed.
