The focus of this paper is on the identification of existing elastic constraints on a ball-screw used to move the tool carriage of a NC machine tool and is part of a project on active damping of flexible structures with time-varying boundary conditions parameters. The knowledge of the screw’s constraints allows to determine the variations of its dynamic behaviour, required not only to perform realistic simulation of the system, but also for the design of active control systems.

Abstract
