We found in our pediatric cohort that a marked depression of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) levels in the active phase of pediatric vasculitides and the restoration of plasma levels during the reparative phase. These data confirm previous reports showing that ACE levels are a useful and sensitive marker of EC injury and suggest their use in monitoring disease activity in pediatric vasculitides. On the basis of this study and previous literature, more attention should be devoted to plasma ACE levels in diseases of the vascular wall
