Contribution to the knowledge of the vegetation of Pratomagno Massif (EasternTuscany): the summit grasslands and the woodlands facing the Casentino Valley - A vegetation survey of the sumnmit grasslands, shrublands and woodlands of the Casentino Valley was carried out by means of 98 phytosociolocical releves and of literature data analyses. The survey led to the recognition of several vegetation types: montane grasslands dominated by Nardus sticta, referred to a new association (Carlino acaulescentis-Nardetum, subass. typicum and subass. caricetosum leporinae); different types of acidophylous shrublands; coenoses dominated by Epilobium angustt/olium; eutrophic and acidophilous beech woods; chestnut woods; birch communities; coenoses dominated by Carpinus betulus and Corylus ave/lana; woods with Quercus cerris, Q. pubescens and Ostrya carpini/olia of different types. The association Teucrio scorodoniae-pteridietum aquilini Stortdder & Westhoff is here lectotypified. Finally we point out to the nature conservation rdevance of this area that is not yet included in any kind of natural reserve.
