The present paper, carried out in a research collaboration between the Department of Mechanics and Industrial Technologies of the University of Florence and the FASEP 2000 company of Ronta (FI), concerns the development of an innovative artificial vision system capable to perform the measurement of camber and toe angles of vehicle wheels1. The vision system acquires the 4 wheels of the vehicle in order to carry out a three-dimensional reconstruction of the scene, thus allowing a non intrusive and reliable measurement of the toe and the camber angles. The wheels are marked with a certain number of IR (or UV) targets with the aim of detecting the 3D position of the wheels themselves, by using image processing and stereoscopic triangulation2. Some innovative algorithm have been developed in order to measure the toe and camber angles in a non-intrusive way. The new approach comprises a novel evaluation of the points of interests in the 3D scene with some geometrical considerations. The devised system has been the object of a patent application.

Abstract
The devised system has been the object of a patent application.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
