Francesco de’ Medici, the second Grand-Duke of Tuscany was rumored to have been murdered in 1587. It had been impossible till now to detect the cause of his death, as his remains during the exhumation of the Medici corpses in 1947 had been deprived of all their tissues. The recent discovery of some fragments of his desiccated entrails permitted to confirm the presence of arsenic.

Abstract
