The aim of this paper is to analyse the potential offered by new advanced technology in building up networks in the museum sector. Recent marketing literature has focused on the shift from the concept of “museum as a preservation site” to the one of “museum as a place of experiences”. In this context, we focus on the contribution made by the Internet to building up a network of ten museums in Florence in order to improve either efficiency or the quality of the visiting. The research methodology is based on a case study approach, examining the members of the network. The paper then presents findings from a quantitative research on visitors at two museums of the network.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyse the potential offered by new advanced technology in building up networks in the museum sector. Recent marketing literature has focused on the shift from the concept of “museum as a preservation site” to the one of “museum as a place of experiences”. In this context, we focus on the contribution made by the Internet to building up a network of ten museums in Florence in order to improve either efficiency or the quality of the visiting. The research methodology is based on a case study approach, examining the members of the network. The paper then presents findings from a quantitative research on visitors at two museums of the network.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
