The chapter addresses the problem of the employment and wage effects of globalization in developing countries. It focuses on the interaction between international trade and labour markets, and on the interplay of trade and capital liberalization with labour market reforms. The chapter starts with a brief mention of the effects of globalization in Europe, for comparative purposes. It then critically reviews the literature on the effects of trade liberalization on employment in developing countries, on the effects of capital market liberalization, and on the labour market reforms and their interplay with trade and capital market policies. It concludes that the results point to the heterogeneous effects produced by the local institutional setting in which the liberalization takes place.
