The paper investigates the economic functions of the capitalist social firm. To this purpose we develop an extension of Hansmann’s theory of non-profit firms that is applicable to firms that are not controlled by patrons, like those we are concerned with here. The analysis uncovers the conditions under donor-owned non-profits organizational forms are efficient for non-profit enterprises. Finally, we ask in which sectors their emergence is more likely with main reference to Italy.

Abstract
The paper investigates the economic functions of the capitalist social firm. To this purpose we develop an extension of Hansmann’s theory of non-profit firms that is applicable to firms that are not controlled by patrons, like those we are concerned with here. The analysis uncovers the conditions under donor-owned non-profits organizational forms are efficient for non-profit enterprises. Finally, we ask in which sectors their emergence is more likely with main reference to Italy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
