The adoption of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) for wide area environmental monitoring is currently considered one of the most challenging application scenario for this emerging technology. This challenge might be afforded by resorting to a complete system level design to jointly address and optimize all the involved aspects. Following this approach, this paper presents an over-all solution focusing both on node, network and remote user interface issues.
