The paper presents the results of a wide experimental campaign on glass beams reinforced with FRP pultruded bars. Similar to steel rebars in reinforced concrete, FRP bars glued to glass can carry tensile stresses after glass cracking, so that beams can have a significant residual strength. The authors designed glass beams formed by three-layer laminated glass panes and reinforced with FRP bars installed inside housing channels with a “U” shape. Common structural resins were used as adhesives; their adhesion to glass was investigated through preliminary pull-out tests. All the beams were tested under four-point bending. A simple analytical model was also developed to explain the observed behavior.
