The paper concerns the structural repair of the wooden roof of this little church, a very important monument for the history of the Cuban nation. The “Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores” was built in 1740, with a wooden roof that is a wonderful example of caraibic colonial roof. In the church there is a very beautiful baroque altar with the statue of “Dolorosa”. In 1998, due to the consequences of the “George” hurricane, the “Capilla” was closed. The works of structural repair started in February 2003, inside a United Nations international co-operation program, called UNDP (United Nations Development Program) – PDHL (Programa para el Desarrollo Humano a Nivel Local) in Cuba. The University of Florence is working for the technical aspects of restoration by the partnership of the “Dipartimento di Costruzioni”, for the structural repair, and the “Dipartimento di Conservazione e Restauro delle Strutture Architettoniche”, for the architectonic restoration. The study on the historical documents and the tests on the materials lead to know the cause of the structural damage: probably a repair made in a not-perfect condition due to a historical emergency situation (the town fire in 1869). The numerical analysis, made before and after the structural repair on the wooden roof , show the good safe behaviour achieved. In particular, in the reconstruction of the heads of the wooden beams in the roof was adopted a mixed-technique with FRP materials.
