Gravel beaches are present along the coast, both as natural and artificial beaches. Laboratory data on the behavior of gravel nourishments, especially in presence of submerged detached breakwaters as a protection against erosion, are very few in the literature. This study is presenting and analyzing a set of laboratory tests where gravel beaches are reproduced under different wave attacks. The influence of gravel size and of type of beach profiles (natural beach or beach protected by a submerged breakwaters) are measured and discussed.

Abstract

Gravel beaches are present along the coast, both as natural and artificial beaches. Laboratory data on the behavior of gravel nourishments, especially in presence of submerged detached breakwaters as a protection against erosion, are very few in the literature. This study is presenting and analyzing a set of laboratory tests where gravel beaches are reproduced under different wave attacks. The influence of gravel size and of type of beach profiles (natural beach or beach protected by a submerged breakwaters) are measured and discussed.
