This brief survey presents and discusses some theoretical approach to natural languages semantics, dwelling in particular on the question concerning the relation between meaning and linguistic expressions. As pragmatics has pointed out, meaning is associated with sentences by virtue of an interpretive process, on which lexical items and morphosyntax simply impose constraints. We will try to investigate the nature of semantic components of natural languages and to explore the link connecting linguistic expressions and interpretation.

Abstract

This brief survey presents and discusses some theoretical approach to natural languages semantics, dwelling in particular on the question concerning the relation between meaning and linguistic expressions. As pragmatics has pointed out, meaning is associated with sentences by virtue of an interpretive process, on which lexical items and morphosyntax simply impose constraints. We will try to investigate the nature of semantic components of natural languages and to explore the link connecting linguistic expressions and interpretation.
