The management of semantic profiles on portals is frequently the feature allowing to bring innovative capabilities. Clear examples are those associated with social networks where user profiles and content descriptors are rocessed to provide new services. In this paper, the management of profiles and descriptors as adopted in the XMF Social Network engine is presented. The profile management is performed as a back office activity executed and formalized on the AXCP language and grid for content processing platform, which has been developed in AXMEDIS IST Research and Development Integrated Project together with a set of enabling technologies.
