This paper reports some preliminary results on measurements carried out with a double polarization radar. An S-band ATC primary radar has been used which was modified to receive two orthogonal circular polarizations when transmitting with a fixed circular polarization. A suitable data acquisition set has been implemented which allows for processing of double polarization radar signal samples acquired in different environmental conditions. Double polarization radar data have been recorded in the presence of jamming, clutter and aircraft target. Some results on the processing of these data are reported which aim at characterizing the polarization behavior of the recorded data signals, as well as at evaluating the performance of different processing techniques. These techniques apply to improve the target-to-disturbance ratio by suitably exploiting the information on the polarization state of radar signals.
