We present a comparison of different methods applied to the determination of the ionization potential (IP) of anisole, a fundamental aromatic molecule. A test is made for IP determination by using either the measurement of the onset for ion production on a REMPI-TOF mass spectrometer or an electron imaging spectrometer operating in velocity mapping conditions. The accuracy and advantages of the two methods discussed and compared with the best available spectroscopic data. Thanks to the electron imaging experiments we are determining also both the first vibrationally excited states available for the anisole cation and the angular distribution of electrons emitted in the corresponding ionization processes.
