The Sagrada Familia, mature work by Antoni Gaudí, is the emblem of Catalan Modernism. The building is a plot of daring static, geometrical and symbolic applications. In the study of the columns/trees of the church, the author defines a new architectural order that is tended to overcome the classical canons: their tensions and forms express movement and growth, symbols of life. The dynamic of trees, organisms in continuous transformations, is interpreted by the compositions of geometrical constructions: their rhythm grows with clockwise and counter clockwise rotations of polygons tending to the squaring of circle. The systematic application of simple rules on different base forms determines the complex three dimensional geometries that model a new and personal perception of the architectural space. The geometrical genesis of columns explicates the Catalan Master’s architectural philosophy and clarifies the latent classicism of his works: a new and original critical reading is now possible. The multimedia path illustrates the historical fundaments by placing side by side the artistic and cultural vanguards and their mutual relations; more, it confirms the innovating value of Gaudi’s works and his influences on the contemporary architecture. The contamination between architecture and music underlines the cultural background in which Gaudí operated .
