Current consequences of ‘‘Boolean’’ intuitions

Boole proposed an innovative and original personal interpretation of the relationship of philosophy, logic, probability, and mathematics, since, in his opinion, there was a strong connection among them, whereas, at his time, logic was specifically linked to philosophy. The philosophic and mathematic work of Boole was known and appreciated by the logicians of the eighteen hundreds. Recent history instead has clearly demonstrated that the symbolic logic of George Boole has decisive practical applications in computer science, and in particular in health electronic search. Today, a variety of search instruments require the mandatory use of Boolean operators, so that it may be said that Boole’s intuitions have finally come into their own.
