Construction of an intestinal stoma is a simple operation that every surgeon dealing with intraabdominal structures should know since in some circumstances, due to pathologic or iatrogenic lesions, the small or large bowel must be repaired or partially removed. In some cases (excessive faecal load, unsatisfactory intestinal anastomoses, technical impossibility to restore intestinal continuity) the construction of a stoma can be a life-saving procedure. In this chapter we describe our modality of preparation of the two possible types of stoma: permanent or temporary.
