A practical procedure for measuring the control-to-output transfer function of a PWM boost converter operated in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is given. It is shown that a simple, low cost measurement setup can be used to test a boost converter and verify a small-signal model of PWM boost converter. The results of this work shows that a frequency-domain description of a PWM DC-DC boost converter can be achieved by using a simple measurement setup. Moreover, the frequency behavior of the model considered here yields accurate results for small-signal, frequency-domain representation of the converter. Therefore, the model can be used to derive the expressions and Bode plots of the control-to-output transfer function. Finally, the proposed method can be utilized in designing an appropriate feedback loop of the converter.
