The standard electromagnetic radio frequency interference receiver (EMI receiver) is a fundamental tool for the measurement of all the quantities of interest in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In this paper we start to analyze the constituent elements of the EMI receiver focusing on the main differences from the well-known spectrum analyzer, then we describe the detection circuit with particular attention to the value presented on the display when a continuous sinusoidal signal or an impulsive signal (wide band, repetitive or non-repetitive, coherent o not-coherent) is applied to the input of the EMI receiver.

Abstract

The standard electromagnetic radio frequency interference receiver (EMI receiver) is a fundamental tool for the measurement of all the quantities of interest in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In this paper we start to analyze the constituent elements of the EMI receiver focusing on the main differences from the well-known spectrum analyzer, then we describe the detection circuit with particular attention to the value presented on the display when a continuous sinusoidal signal or an impulsive signal (wide band, repetitive or non-repetitive, coherent o not-coherent) is applied to the input of the EMI receiver.
