La lipomatosi post-traumatica

The appearance of a lipomatous-like tumour consequent to trauma is a rather infrequent occurrence. Such lipomatous tumours are prevalently localized in the lower abdomen, glutei and peritrochanter region and a higher incidence is reported in females (12:1). This characteristic is probably attributable to the fat distribute in particular to women and to the particular anatomic conformation of the subcutaneous tissue and its fascial components in the gluteal region and thighs. We report the case of a 23-year-old patient referred to us because of the appearance of an indolent tumefaction in the left peritrochanter region, consequent to a trauma occurring five years previously, involving fracture of the pelvis. After ultrasound and magnetic resonance testing, it was elected to operate by liposuction technique, by which a good profile and minimal scarring was achieved.
