In December 1998 near San Rossore railway station, in Pisa, ancient ships remains were discovered. These findings have been dated to between the end of the 10th century B.C. and the 5th century A.D. The aim of this work is the mineralogical, petrographical and chemical characterisation of the ceramic body of the findings, to provide information about the possible origin of the raw materials utilised in the manufactured product and their technology. The analyse carried out, might shed some lights on the trade routes followed by the ships and the commercial relation of Pisa during the Roman Empire.
