Objective. We evaluated the increase in sexual function in 2 groups of patients with congenital recurvatum penis and erectile dysfunction: the 1° group of patients was treated with corporoplasty and dorsal vein ligation. The 2° group of patients was treated with corporoplasty and rehabilitative therapy. Patients and methods. Since June 1996 we have evaluated 10 patients with congenital recurvatum penis and erectile dysfunction. The patients ranged from 22 to 36 years of age (median age 28,4). In 8 patients nocturnal tumescence was present. None of the diagnostic examinations were performed because all the patients wanted surgical treatment. The patients were randomly divided in two groups of 5. The 1° group underwent corporoplasty with plication and shaving along with dorsal vein ligation. The 2° group underwent the same surgical treatment without dorsal vein ligation. During the postoperative period, these 5 patients underwent 15 perineal rehabilitation sessions three times a week to strengthen the bulbo and ischiocavernous muscles. Results. In all patients the esthetic result was good. Two of the 5 patients treated with dorsal vein ligation had persistent erectile dysfunction 3 months alter surgery. Only I of the 5 patients treated with perineal rehabilitation had erectile dysfunction alter 15 sessions of rehabilitative therapy. The 2 patients from the first group with persistent erectile dysfunction were treated with rehabilitative therapy, and the one patient from the second group was retreated. All three had a noticeble clinical improvement. Conclusions. The Authors underlie the importance of rehabilitative therapy alone or in association with corporoplasty and dorsal vein ligation in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in young people with congenital recurvatum penis and confirmed or suspected caverno-venous dysfunction.
