In this study the favourable effect of chitosan in improving naproxen dissolution properties has been demonstrated. The influence on this effect of the polymer molecular weight, the polymer-to-drug mixing weight ratio and the method used to disperse the drug within the polymer (blending, co-grinding, kneading, coevaporation) have been investigated. The solid state of all systems was characterized by DSC, X-ray and microscope analyses. The drug dissolution enhancement was principally attributed to both polymer wetting effect and decreased drug crystallinity, this last particularly evident in coground products, which showed the best dissolution properties.
