The sulfonamide moiety is a common pharmacophore in many biologically active compounds, such as HIV inhibitors, antimicrobial drugs, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and anti-tumor agents. Because the structural and conformational properties of a compound usually are related to its biological properties, their study would provide useful information to design new effective drugs.
