Abstract

Concerning the subject paper and theory therein about "how the FR4 board reduces the reflection coefficient", apparently the authors (and even the referees) are unaware of the basics of the propagation in inhomogeneously filled waveguides. In particular, the description of the propagation of waves with different propagation constants is absolutely incorrect. As a matter of fact, the boundary condition at the interface between the two dielectric slabs forces the same propagation constant in both media. Although a rigorous description of the Green's function in an inhomogeneously filled radial line slot array (RLSA) can be found in [1], one can refer to the solution for a partially filled parallel-plate transmission line in [2] to understand the physical mechanism behind the propagation in a two-layers RLSA. ...
