Despite advances made in understanding the role exerted by motivational processes in fostering employees’ innovativeness at work, studies examining motivation factors other than intrinsic or extrinsic motivation are relatively scarce. The present research investigated the relationship between proactive goal generation, a motivational process encompassing envisioning and planning activities, and innovative work behaviour (IWB). The role of team task orientation (TTO) as a boundary condition associated to planning’s effects was further examined. It was hypothesized that: 1) envisioning and planning would be positively related to IWB; 2) the relationship between planning and IWB would be enhanced by a stronger TTO.
