JOURNAL OF MINING SCIENCE is the English translation of the Russian Fiziko-Tekhnicheskie Problemy Razrabotki Poleznykh Iskopaemykh Abstract: Problems in mining of rubble stones of 'Pietra Serena' type are considered. It has been shown that geology of deposit is important factor. Special investigations have been performed in order to provide geological evaluation of Macinio area. Oligocene-Miocene turbidity sequences of Northern Apennines have been studied. In this region, light-colored rubble stones were mined from rock seams. Particularities in rock bedding have been discussed. It is shown, that physical-mechanical properties and mineralogical composition of rocks provide differences in operational characteristics
