Abstract

In the ECEC services of Livorno, reading is a regular practice, because it is considered to have several positive effects on child development, not only at a linguistic and cognitive level, but also at an emotional and relational one. The educational programmes of services are also elaborated starting from a book's story. Every year, the educators choose an illustrated book on the basis of which, in a flexible and gradual manner, they identify their educational purposes and organize activies for the children.
