The ACE project (ACE is a short for ASI CNIT Emulator) is a three year project aiming at the implementation of a real time simulator for satellite telecommunication systems. The Italian Space Agency (ASI) is financing the project, and CNIT (a short for ``Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni'') or "National Consortium of Universities for Telecommunications") is carrying on the research activity trough its Research Units (RUs) located in Turin, Florence and Genoa. Recently the CNIT Research Unit of Catania joined the project. In this paper we will describe the architecture of the emulator and its main features.
