Coroplastica: analisi archeometriche

During the last few years, archaeometric analyses carried out on samples belonging to an ample database have allowed a wide range of ceramic products to be attributed to Scoppieto. The probable provenience of five ceramic elements from the site was studied in the present work by means of chemical and mineralogical analyses. Then the chemical data were elaborated with statistical analyses (i.e. combining cluster and biplot analysis) in order to formulate hypotheses on the provenience of the samples studied. For four of the five samples it was possible to hypothesize a regional provenience, even if some uncertainty still exists with regard to their attribution to Scoppieto. A sure local provenience, on the other hand, has been attributed to the fifth sample, the altar. Furthermore, the chemical and mineralogical analyses allow the material used as temper in the production of this object to be attributed to the volcanic outcrops of the Roman province.
