The essay analyses the Italian legislation on protection of social security rights of migrant workers from a critical point of view. In particular, as to contributory social security benefits, the paper describes the differences regarding single benefits between migrant workers and Italian citizens, and analyses their compatibility with the principle of equal treatment in social security for Italians and legal resident migrant workers, which is explicitly guaranteed by Italian, EU and international law.
