In many real life service systems, servers are generally heterogeneous with different skills and without cross training. In addition, the service times are random variables with different means. In order to provide service, servers need additional resources. If the required resource is not available, a server may have to wait till the resource is available, even though the customer is waiting to be served. Developing exact queueing models to analyze such systems is not possible. The objective of this paper is to develop a simulation model to analyze one such problem to get managerial insight.

Abstract
In many real life service systems, servers are generally heterogeneous with different skills and without cross training. In addition, the service times are random variables with different means. In order to provide service, servers need additional resources. If the required resource is not available, a server may have to wait till the resource is available, even though the customer is waiting to be served. Developing exact queueing models to analyze such systems is not possible. The objective of this paper is to develop a simulation model to analyze one such problem to get managerial insight.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
