Lampedusa, a small and gorgeous Italian Island, is often the first land approached by migrants attempting to get to Europe. The large number of migrants comparing to the Isalnd's dimensions have always created huge troubles and serious concerns for the respect of fundamental human rights of people in need of reception and assistance. The paper in particular explores what happened in October 2013 when more than three undred died in a boat off Lampedusa's shore.
