Commenti verbali di fratelli e sorelle e insoddisfazione corporea: Proprietà psicometriche di una versione italiana della Verbal Commentary on Physical Appearance Scale-Siblings (VCOPAS-S)

The aim of the present study was to investigate the factor structure of the Italian version of the Verbal Commentary on Physical Appearance Scale (VCOPAS) modifying it in order to measure comment from siblings (Verbal Commentary on Physical Appearance Scale – Siblings; VCOPAS-S). Participants were 161 young women. Exploratory factor analysis was performed and convergent validity of the scale was analysed examining correlations with the Feedback on Physical Appearance Scale-Family (FOPAS-F), the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) and the Contour Drawing Rating Scale (CDRS). The VCOPAS-S showed a three- factor structure: Negative Weight and Shape (α = .92), Positive Weight and Shape (α = .80), and Positive General Appearance Subscale (α = .90). Convergent validity was found to be good. The VCOPAS-S seems a valid and reliable instrument to assess the frequency of the comment on physical appearance from siblings among young women in the Italian context.
